Specialty Doctor in Adult Community Mental Health

£52, 530 - £82,400 per annum

Hours: 37.5 per week (Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00)

We are currently collaborating with an NHS Trust located in South West England, actively seeking experienced Psychiatrists to enhance their dedicated teams. As a prominent NHS community and mental health provider, the Trust is committed to delivering comprehensive care, focusing on both physical and mental well-being. Their services extend to providing specialized support for individuals dealing with dementia and learning disabilities.

The Trust comprises approximately 4,000 professionals, including doctors, nurses, therapists, administrators, and support staff. Their work is diverse, taking place in people's homes, community clinics, and various bases. Additionally, some team members operate from the Trust's 10 community hospitals, serving a population of over 500,000 residents in the region.

This post is community based and without in-patient responsibility serving people aged 18 - 75 years. As part of wider Community Mental Health Transformation plans our services are re-aligning to new locality working models. This will include a greater emphasis on primary care interface, working as part of a new 'core model' of mental health care. This offers the post-holder a stimulating opportunity to influence service development alongside their clinical responsibilities.

Key responsibilities for the Consultant in Community General Adult Psychiatry role:

  • The post holder will act as the Specialty Doctor for people from theage of 18 referred from within the multidisciplinary team, this will be done by providing outpatient services within the catchment area.
  • This will likely include a blend of face-to-face review in outpatient clinics, home visitsand use of alternative technologies such as telephone review and video consultationsoftware (the Trust uses 'Attend Anywhere').
  • Supervision of the doctors clinical work will be provided by the Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Attendance at the multidisciplinary team meetings is expected to discuss new referrals and existing caseload patients.
  • The Specialty Doctor will contribute towards the formulation and management of complex cases and provide support to teammembers.
  • The post holder will be expected to maintain close working relationships with colleagues in inpatient services concerning the care of patients from within their area.

Minimum requirements for the Consultant in Community General Adult Psychiatry role is:

  • Full GMC registration.
  • MRCPsych (desirable).
  • Section 12 (approved or working towards).
  • 2 years psychiatry experience.
  • 4 years post graduate experience.
  • Experience Supervising Doctors in Training and medical students (desirable).
